Chow Kian Kiong started playing the instrument since tender young age, by strumming popular hits. His love for the classical guitar soon developed into a passionate and serious commitment. He pursued his dream at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and graduated with “Best Student” award in 1993. He won several top prizes during his studies. In 1994 and 1996, at Singapore Guitar Festival, he received first prize in ensemble section and solo section respectively.
As an active performer, he gave several solo recitals in Malaysia and premiered a 25-minute solo work in Singapore entitled “Ballad to a Rustic Band” by American Composer, Robert Luse.
A highly reputable teacher in Singapore, Kian Kiong has been the Guitar Instructor of Coronation Music School since 1993. He was also a qualified examiner and teacher at the Yamaha Music School from 1993-2005. With such depth of experience and patience towards students, Mr Chow receives consistent compliments from students, parents and colleagues not only for his teaching, but his love and passion towards music throughout these years.
“As an educator, the goal of music education should be guided by the purpose of crafting independent musicians, performing and creating music. I will include technique, sight reading, improvisation, music appreciation and history even in the elementary level.”
“My role as a music educator is to bring all students into a journey of lifelong love of music and appreciate the skills and musicianship.”
